You can switch your lights on and off from the other side of the room or even the other side of the planet. You can watch a film held in a cloud on a tablet that is the size of your palm. And this is just a taste of things to come – who knows where the technological revolution will lead us as home devices become more efficient and connectivity gets better.
All good but is it too much? No one I know understands the cloud and how long before the reality of walking past the light switch to get the phone on the coffee table to turn on the lights gets boring and you revert to the switch cleverly put by the door!
The same can be said for property portals. Whilst they are an amazing tool for the house hunter and certainly here to stay you can get thousands of results from search engines. You can also look up the weather in the area, the schools, the nearest shops. But again, how useful is the result?
The truth is there is nothing that replaces visiting the house in person, exploring the shops and getting a feel for an area. Information does not always go hand and hand with clarity. I see people on a regular basis snow blind from all the information. Sometimes the phone, shoe leather and time are the best solution, as is the light switch.
